Course Details

Once enrolled in this course, instructor Daniel Roest guides students through an introduction to the instrument - With Classical and Fingerstyle. Students begin by learning key subjects such as the anatomy and function of the elements of the acoustic guitar, the history of the instrument, as well as modern-day use. Once a strong foundation has been established, instructor Roest guides students through learning to play chords, scales, arpeggios, and simple songs while implementing proper posture, handling, and practice techniques.  To move from Beginner to Intermediate takes different amounts of time for different guitarists, but two to three months would be an average to acquire substantial progress and move out of "Beginner" stage.

As an experienced guitar instructor, Daniel Roest has created a lesson plan to quickly guide his pupils through the beginner stage of basics and into the more intermediate level subjects of rhythm, tone, speed, and balance. Roest’s students also learn to read sheet music, play simple songs, and begin building their own personalized repertoire. The practicing techniques outlined in this course are customizable to the needs of each student.

About the Teacher: Daniel Roest began his musical studies at the young age of six. After mastering the basics, young Roest left to study with guitar exponent Bunyun Webb. As a young adult, Roest began his educational career as a guitar major, resulting in three degrees. Roest now passes on his passion and skill as a teacher himself. Over the years Roest has taught at California State University Stanislaus, De Anza, Foothill, and San Jose City Colleges. Currently Roest maintains a full-time teaching studio in Folsom, CA., while continuing to use his 60 years of musical experience to teach international students one-on-one through his own online guitar courses for beginners.

The ipassio Edge

Since this course is detailed, students get the advantage of learning intricate details about this art form. The limited strength of the class also ensures that there is a strong bond between the students and their teacher clearing out any inhibitions that the student might have. The sustained guidance available from the teacher ensures that the student does not deviate from set goals or targets. Learning from a revered, experienced exponent of this art form, through the long duration of this course, keeps the student inspired and motivated to achieve more.

Course Specific Benefits

I know classical and fingerstyle guitar best, so if nylon-string guitar is what you like best, this is a great match. I teach steel-string as well. I'm very good at ergonomics - what works physically. I offer a well-rounded blend of chords, arpeggios, scales, reading and repertoire. With my coaching, you can move steadily ahead and enjoy playing and performing. I look forward to helping you!"

FAQs

Question
How long and how often should I practice?
Answer
Of course, the more you put in, the more you get out. I recommend a good thirty minutes per day at least five or six days per week as a minimum. That adds up to 2-1/2 hours to 3 hours per week. If even thirty minutes at a time is too much, you can break that up into smaller sessions - play chords for ten minutes, do some scales later in the day, get to repertoire before bedtime, etc.
Question
Why did you choose to teach professionally?
Answer
I learned that most great musicians are at least part-time teachers. Teaching has turned out to be immensely rewarding. I've done college classes, adult education high school and elementary, but private lessons are the best because you get to tailor your teaching to an individual. I've met so many great people along the way.
Question
How much time should a student enrolling for this course practice everyday?
Answer
Students should practice a minimum of 30 minutes every day. If they can devote more time to practice, they will learn better and faster.
Question
What if a student is unable to attend an upcoming class?
Answer
The student is required to inform the teacher about his absence from a particular session, two days prior to the class. In such a case, the teacher will reschedule the class and conduct the rescheduled class on or before the end (i.e. Saturday) of the ensuing week or such other time as may be mutually decided between the teacher and the student. In case the student misses to give two days prior notice about his absence to the teacher, then the decision to conduct another class for that student is completely based on teacher’s discretion.
Question
What if the teacher wishes to reschedule a class?
Answer
In case the teacher is unavailable for the scheduled class, he/she will inform the students two days prior to the class. The teacher will conduct the rescheduled class on or before the end (i.e. Saturday) of the ensuing week or such other time as may be mutually decided between the teacher and the student.
Question
How long will the teacher take to revert to a query raised after class hours?
Answer
The teacher will try to revert back to queries raised after class hours within a 24 hour period.
Question
Can this course be customized?
Answer
Yes, this course can be customized based on your goals and objectives.
Question
Can students of all age enroll to learn this course?
Answer
Students aged 10 or above can join this course.
