Description

This 32 week long beginners course, ‘Learn to draw portraits’, initiates by diving into the basics of pencil sketching and rendering, informing students about the materials required, their specific purpose and their optimum use. The students are then trained on sketching and rendering, the use of different pencil strokes, shading techniques as well as planning for open spaces. Information on spheres and three types of finishings for the sphere is also taught during this time. Students are then taught to select a referral image, learning how to observe the subject in the image and drawing the same on paper. Here on the student learns about the correct grade of pencils required to render the image of his choice, the different strokes that make the rendered image lifelike. The exact way to render the eyes realistically as well as directions on the use of a flat brush and paper stumps required to create varied textures like fur depending on the subject. The course goes on to educate students on the use of kneaded erasers that help lift pigments of graphite (pencil) or charcoal from the drawing. The final step to realising an intricately worked portrait will involve giving the glazing effect and depth to the complete drawing. The culmination of the 32-week long beginner course in drawing portraits will catapult the student from being an absolute novice in portrait drawing to a proficient level, guided by valuable know-how and direction.
