This course will train students to draw lifelike portraits of animals, taking into consideration their distinct skin texture such as fur on a cat or the cross lines on a zebra. This course will help students to add depth to their drawings applying the right effects through shading, light, contrast and shadows to make the animal drawing come to life. It helps the student to apply the understanding acquired about the use of different grades of pencils, light, shading, spheres, stumps and flat brush to practical use. This course will guide students to choose the referral image and make detailed observations of the animal in the image. Moving on, guidance on drawing the image on paper, keeping in mind the observations made will be provided, alongside training to help students plan on leaving empty spaces at the beginning. Furthermore, students will be trained on the use of the right pencil grade required for strokes in the drawing. Detailed attention will be given while rendering the eyes for them to look photoreal. Touches on animals skin texture will be carried out using the flat brush and paper stumps used by artists to smudge or blend marks made with charcoal, Conté crayon, pencil or other drawing media.
