Course Details

During the course of 26 weekly 60 minute classes, Instructor Aaron Larget-Caplan, through repertoire and exercises, will help students focus on sound production, ease of motion, performance practice, and the basics of music theory in what they are playing. As the lessons progress, Aaron will introduce body awareness, stretches and strengthening of the hands and arms, and mental preparation for whichever stage the student chooses to perform on.

Through this course, the students will gain the ability to play the guitar, tune their instrument, read western notation, and learn basic repertoire.  Further, the students will be introduced to the aesthetic tradition of classical guitar, gain improved listening skills and skills applied to various styles of guitar (i.e. folk, flamenco).

About the Instructor: Aaron Larget-Caplan is an internationally acclaimed touring and recording guitarist and is considered one of the most innovative and exciting leaders in classical music today. He has performed both chamber and solo music in Russia, Taiwan, Europe, and across the United States. Making his debut at 16 years old at Tabor Opera House, he has since continued on to premiere in over 80 chamber and solo compositions and directed many concert series. In 2015 Aaron became a recording artist with Stone Records.

Aaron is currently part of the faculty at the University of Massachusetts Boston. He has given countless masterclasses, artist residencies, lectures and workshops across the United States, Italy, Russia and Canada, for the Banff Centre for the Creative Arts, the Guitar Foundation of America and Mu Phi Epsilon International Music Fraternity. Aaron is a graduate of the New England Conservatory, where he studied flamenco with teacher Dmitry Goryachev.  Aaron was rewarded the Médaille D’Etain from the Société Académique Arts-Sciences-Lettres of Paris, celebrating his revolutionary work with music in 2019.

The ipassio Edge

Students enrolling for this course on ipassio can be sure that they receive individual attention from the teacher, as the class strength is limited to 1 student. It also gives teachers the opportunity, to gauge their student's progress in-depth and make changes whenever and wherever required, to ensure the student gets the maximum out of this course. Since this course is detailed, students get the advantage of learning intricate details about Mallet Instruments. The limited strength of the class also ensures that there is a strong bond between the students and their teacher clearing out any inhibitions that the student might have. The sustained guidance available from the teacher ensures that the student does not deviate from set goals or targets. Learning from a revered, experienced exponent of Mallet Instruments, through the long duration of this course, keeps the student inspired and motivated to achieve more.

Prerequites

Students must provide their own guitar, tuner, and necessary accessories (foot stool, music stand, notebook). The ability to read standard western notation is important, but not required as a prerequisite. Students will learn reading western notation. TAB and other music notations will supplement.
