Applicable to any instrument in any genre, this course is perfect for those wanting to add Indian rhythm to their musical expertise. Lessons begin with Carnatic rhythm from South India, including training in Konnakol—the vocabulary of vocal syllables, followed by North Indian rhythm and its distinctive vocabulary and recitation tradition. Students will also study micro beats, calculations, and time signatures relating to Indian rhythm. These techniques and traditions are unique to India, having no counterpart in Western music, and students completing this course will be able grow in complexity and skill as musicians.
