Course Duration60 Weeks
M A music from Madras university
'Advanced Carnatic vocal' is taught over the course of 60 weeks by N S Kamakshi, who has more than 20 years' experience teaching and performing Carnatic music. Only suitable for students who have already completed the basic and intermediate courses in Carnatic vocals, it will cover Manodharma singing, Neraval singing, ragas and kalpanaswaram.
Manodharma is a form of improvisation and is created on the spot during a performance. Although it is improvised, the music performed will be confined to the strict grammar of Carnatic music. With N S Kamakshi's guidance, students will develop their own individual style of Manodharma and will be able to explore their musical values and understanding.
Neraval singing, also known as Niraval, is considered an important feature of improvisation. Essentially it is the impromptu elaboration, construction or improvisation of a melody from a particular kriti line. As such, it's a vital teaching in Kamakshi's 'Advanced Carnatic vocal' course.
