Course Details

This course is aimed towards getting interested students attuned to learning the ancient dance form from Kerala, known as Mohiniyattam. Mohiniyattam or the dance of the enchantress was first practised in temples and royal courts before it made its way into the public domain. This course will first introduce students to the ancient artform and its emergence. This will be followed by the teacher teaching students 20 basic adavus, steps or foot movements to initiate learning mohiniyattam alongside teaching students the main mudras. By the end of the course students will be taught to perform, using aduvas and mudras to a shloka rendered by the teacher.

After successful completion of this course, students can gear themselves for the next course by Dr. Rekha Raju: Basics of Mohiniyattam | Level I

About Dr. Rekha Raju: Identified as a child prodigy after entering dance school at the tender age of 3 and a half years, Rekha Raju has come a long way. After refining her skills as a bharatanatyam dancer Dr. Rekha Raju has devoted most of her time to mohiniattam, a dance form popular in Kerala. Perhaps her birth in Palakkad, Kerala could be the possible reason for her interest in Mohiniyattam. Raised in Bangalore, the gifted artist now runs Nithya Dhama, a dance school in Bangalore. Amidst this hustle and bustle Dr.Rekha Raju successfully completed her phd in dance from Mysore University studying Margi and desi techniques of Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattam.
