Can I request for a different class/course timing suitable to my timezone/country?

Yes, you can request a different class timing.  For this, we suggest you meet the teacher before you enrol in the course and discuss a suitable timing as per your timezone.  To meet the teacher, you just need to “Sign Up For A Free Class available on the top of the respective course page.

What is a Free Class?

A free class is a 20 to 30 minutes online live face to face class with the teacher through skype or hangouts. In this free class:

  • You get to meet and know the teacher;
  • You and the teacher can discuss and finalize convenient timings for the regular classes;
  • Student can inform the teacher about his/her objectives and goals of learning a particular hobby;
  • Student can ask their queries related to the course topics, where to buy instruments, etc;
  • Teacher could get to know at what level the student current knowledge is and at what level the student has to be taught upon like (basic, intermediate and Advanced);
  • Teacher would show you the outline, like at the end of the course what level you would have mastered upon; and
  • The teacher may demonstrate how an online class will work.

How do I request a Free Class?

On top of every course page, you will find a button named “Sign Up for a Free class or “Request A Free Class.  Click this button and fill a form with necessary details.  Once you submit this form, the teacher will be informed immediately and ipassio will connect you with the teacher.

Do you provide classes locally in my city/state?

No, ipassio is online live learning platform. Our teachers are spread across the world and they teach all the hobbies face to face online through Skype or Google hangouts.  We currently do not conduct classes locally in any city/state/country.

Do I have to pay fees for the full course upfront?

No, you don’t need to pay for the full course upfront. ipassio provides the benefit of paying a minimum for only 2 weeks at a time and maximum for 15 weeks at a time.  After you have consumed the weeks you have already paid for, you can refill/purchase again for a minimum of 2 weeks and more.

How do I have to Pay?

On the course page, you will see ‘Enrol Now’ button available against a ‘Section’ of your choice.  On clicking this button, you will be taken to Checkout page.  On the checkout page:

  • For students from India, we have two payment options, CCAvenue and PayUMoney. Students can pay by using their debit card, credit card and Net Banking facility; and
  • For students outside India, we have the PayPal option and the students can pay by using their debit card and credit card.

What is the price for a course?

Each course is priced differently. For any course, the weekly price will be displayed on the respective course page.

In a week, you may have 1 class or maybe even 2. It depends on the teacher and is set initially by them. The number of classes in a week will also be displayed on the course page.

Courses are on a pay-as-you-go model where you need not pay fees for the entire course. You can purchase classes for as low as 2 weeks(which is the minimum number of classes that can be purchased at a time).

Do you have to pay fees for the entire course upfront? You can refer to this answer.
For example, a course X can be of 52 weeks. It has a weekly fee of $36 and has 1 class every week. You can start the course by paying for 2 weeks (which is 2 X $36 = $72). After attending 2 weeks, you can purchase the classes again. You need not pay for the entire course upfront ( 52 X $36 = $1872)

Note: You can pay for more than 2 classes at a time to save time

Can I pay after each class?

No. Students will have to purchase credits for at least a minimum of 2 classes before starting the classes. There is currently no provision of students paying after a class gets over.

Payments made by students are held safe by ipassio and will be released to teachers only after both the parties mark their attendance.

How do I enrol in a course?

To enrol yourself in a course, you will need to take the following steps:

  • Step 1: Sign In to your account, visit the course page of your interest and click on 'Enrol Now' button available against a ‘Section’ of your choice.
  • Step 2: You will now be on the Checkout page. In 'Your Cart' area, choose the 'Week you want to start learning' from and choose 'Number of Weeks' you want to currently pay for - this by default is set to 2 weeks and maximum you can purchase is for 15 weeks; and
  • Step 3: Enter your billing address and make the payment through PayPal, CCAvenue or PayUMoney.

How do I select dates for classes?

While enrolling for the course, you can decide the first week you'd like to start the course based on the availability of the teacher. After that students can mutually decide dates for successive classes by discussing with the teacher.

Students can take a break from the course by informing the teacher about the same if the classes are not scheduled.

Even when the classes are scheduled, students can reschedule them if they inform teachers 2 days prior to the scheduled date.

How can I reschedule a class?

The student can reschedule a class by informing the teacher about his/her absence, two days prior to the scheduled class. In such a case, the teacher will reschedule the class and conduct the rescheduled class on or before the end (i.e. Saturday) of the ensuing week or such other time as may be mutually decided between the teacher and the student.

In case the student misses to give two days prior notice about his/her absence to the teacher, then the decision to conduct another class for that student is completely based on the teacher’s discretion.

The same process applies to teachers who wish to reschedule the class.

Can I take a break from the course?

Absolutely yes! Students and teachers can mutually decide dates for the classes. If the student wishes to take a break, he/she can inform the teacher of the same while deciding the schedule for classes. The same applies to teachers as well.

Even if classes have been already scheduled, students and teachers have the flexibility to reschedule the classes if they inform each other 2 days prior.

Can I meet the teacher before enrolling into a particular course?

Yes, you can meet the teacher before enrolling into the course. To meet the teacher, you just need to make a request for a free class by clicking the button “Sign Up for a Free Class” available on the course page of your interest.

If I miss a class, do I have to pay for it?

Students are expected to inform teachers at least 2 days prior to the scheduled class in case they wish to reschedule them. In such a case, the teacher will reschedule the class and conduct the rescheduled class on or before the end (i.e. Saturday) of the ensuing week or such other time as may be mutually decided between the teacher and the student. Students will not have to pay additionally for the class.

In case the student misses to give two days prior notice about his/her absence to the teacher, then the decision to conduct another class for that student is completely based on the teacher’s discretion. Based on the teacher's discretion, the student may or may not have to pay additionally for the class.

What is a Short Term Course?

Short Term Course is a course type containing following features:

  • Number of Students: At a time the teacher is allowed to teach a maximum of 5 students in each section of the course.
  • Fixed Syllabus: The syllabus of a short-term course should be fixed and planned before the course starts.
  • Course Duration: Such courses will run for short duration i.e. a minimum of 1 week and a maximum of 9 months.
  • Pricing: The course price will be paid at a shot by the student. However, the teacher will get paid on a weekly basis after the classes for that week are conducted and not disputed by the student.
  • Fosters learning from peers and promotes social interaction.

What is a Long Term Course?

Long Term Course is a course type containing following features:

  • Number of Students:In this course type, at a time the teacher is allowed to teach only 2 students in each section of the course.
  • Personalized Attention: Since there will be only 2 students, the teacher will be able to provide more personalized attention to a student.
  • Open-ended Syllabus: The syllabus of such course should be open-ended (not fixed or limited) and should cover all areas / topics of the course subject.
  • Course Duration: Since such courses focus on personalized attention and learning at own pace and therefore a long term course runs for a longer duration i.e. minimum of 9+ months and maximum of 2 years.
  • Pricing: The price of this course will be paid for a minimum of 2 weeks at a time by the student. However, the teacher will get paid on a weekly basis after the classes for that week are conducted and not disputed by the student.
  • Learning at Own Pace: The students in this course will be able to learn at their own pace. If the student learns fast, he or she can learn more new things in the subject since the syllabus is not fixed and if the student learns slowly, then he or she can take his or her own time to grasp the Subject and continue to practice along with the teacher and his or her classmate.
  • Fosters learning from the peer and social interaction: The reason for keeping 2 students instead of only 1 student in each section is to promote social communication and interaction and to foster learning from the peer.

What is a Section?

The purpose of Section is to allow teachers to provide different timings for teaching the course depending on the time suitability of the student.

In a course, a teacher can create different sections such as Section A, Section B, Section C etc or Class I, Class II, Class III etc. Each section in a short term course, can have 5 students and each section in a long term course, can have 2 students. Each section should be scheduled at a different time or on a different day.

For example:

Section A can be scheduled on:

  • Every Monday from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM and
  • Every Wednesday from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM

Section B can be scheduled on:

  • Every Monday from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM
  • Every Friday from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM

Please note any 2 sections should not have the same teaching time on the same day. The above schedule of each section will be displayed on the Course Display page for the students to be able to decide which day and time suits best for them before enrolling.

What is a Class?

A class is a class scheduled to be taken or already taken at a particular time and on a particular day of the week. The duration of each class is fixed by the teacher and can vary from 15 minutes to 2 hours or more. In a week, the teacher can schedule more than one class for each sections of the course created by him or her. These classes can be conducted by the teacher through Skype or Google Hangouts. A class can also be called ‘Class’.

How many students will be in a class?

Along with peer learning, the courses are also planned to provide one-to-one personalized attention and therefore the maximum number of students in a class is restricted to 2.

How to use Google Hangouts?

To use Google+ Hangouts you need to have a Gmail Address. Once you have signed in your gmail account, you can start using Video Hangouts from this link.

How to create a video on YouTube?

  • Go to YouTube upload page by clicking on the upload button available on the top right side of YouTube website;
  • On the YouTube Upload page, click the Webcam Capture ‘Record’ button available in the ‘Create Videos’ panel on the right side of the page. Please do not change the privacy settings from ‘Public’ to ‘Private’
  • On this page you can start recording yourself using your computer’s webcam.
  • After recording your video, please fill the ‘Description’ field and ‘Tags’ field in the ‘Basic Info’ form and then click Publish.
  • After you have clicked ‘Publish’, click cancel and you will be shown the ‘Info and settings’ page where you will find your video URL on the right side in the video information section.

Can I dispute a class taken in a week?

Yes but only on the following grounds:

  • Class was cancelled by the teacher.
  • Teacher was not present at the scheduled time for the online class.
  • Teacher postponed the class to future.
  • There was a major concern regarding the quality of teaching.

What is the time-limit to raise a dispute?

You can dispute the class anytime before the week following the week in which the class took place ends.

How to raise a dispute?

On the Enrolled Courses page, there is a “Raise a Dispute” button at the top. Click on the button and a form called “Raise a Dispute” will open. Fill this dispute form for the week displayed in the form and also mention the reason for the dispute.

How much does ipassio charge?

We charge an additional 20 percent which is included in the price mentioned by the teacher for each course on course enrollment page. This 20 percent includes taxes, payment gateway fees and ipassio maintenance fees.

What are the basic prerequisites for students to learn on ipassio?

You need to have a basic knowledge of how to use a computer and a few online video communication tools like Skype, Google Hangouts etc. This apart, you should have a good webcam and internet connection (If you are from India, we would recommend Act Fibernet or Airtel 4G internet connection).

Do I need to have the instrument for the free class?

For beginners, it is not mandatory to have the instrument during the free class. However, for intermediate and advanced level students, it is recommended to have the instrument so that the teacher can assess the current level of knowledge and accordingly plan / customize the course.

How is the teaching quality of the teachers on ipassio?
