Basics of Hindustani Vocal Music is a journey in the basics of this rich North Indian musical tradition. Taking place over the duration of 25 weeks, lessons consist of two 60 minute sessions each week. Perfect for students who are pursuing a musical hobby or career, these lessons will provide the essential building blocks of Hindustani vocal music for any musical endeavour.

Course Details
This course will provide students with the basic information and elementary knowledge of raagas and their associated intricacies. Instructor Aditya Khandwe guides students through the lesson plan as they learn Alankaars and other basic vocal exercises that will help new students fine-tune their pitch and strengthen their tone. Later in the course, students will master introductory compositions as well as the mannerisms and techniques of developing a raag of their own.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will enjoy the ability to sing and develop raags on their own. After course completion, all students will be well equipped to move onto the next course, Intermediate Level Hindustani Classical Vocals.

ABOUT THE TEACHER: Aditya Khandwe is a vocalist in the tradition of Jaipur Gayaki, the rich and flourishing signature style of Jaipur Gharana. Khandwe has a distinguished lineage of doyens in this Gharana through his guru Ganyogini Smt. Dhondutai Kulkarni. Khandwe has won many awards and accolades during the duration of his musical career including; Shanmukha Sangeet Shiromani Award, Pt. Ramkrishnabua Vaze Yuva Puraskar, Surmani title by Sur Singar Samsad, Mumbai in 2008, winner of Acharya Vishwanath Dev Sarma Art Foundation competition in 2006 in Classical Vocal held at New York, USA and many more. Today, Khandwe ensures the continuation of this traditional art form by providing instruction to students all over the world.

It also gives teachers the opportunity, to gauge their students progress in depth and make changes whenever and wherever required, to ensure the student gets the maximum out of this course. As an introductory course, no prerequisites are required before enrolment. Students will need pen and paper to take notes, but no other materials are required for this course. It is vital that students have ample time to not only participate in the weekly sessions but also practice on their own. The frequency of individual practice sessions may vary.
