Singing Classes with Foundation of Hindustani Classical Music

The mentor of this course understands that music comes to different people in its own time and its own way. Therefore these individual classes are optimized with a thorough and profound understanding of each concept. The highlights of this course include -

• The course uses the fundamental principles of Hindustani classical music to do the voice culture.
• The course starts with training the ears by listening to the correct rendition of the ‘swaras’. It is followed by the right practice regime in a way that makes the ‘swaras’ a part of the muscle memory.
• The emphasis is entirely on listening. Listening while attending the classes, listening to the class recordings and other recommended songs, and trying to identify the swaras and shrutis used in the composition. 
• The teacher will provide the students with a practice box for regular exercises. These practice boxes have audio clips where the teacher sings the exercise and leaves space for the students to repeat after him. It is accompanied by a harmonium playing in the backdrop.
• The audio clips would be given to the students gradually, depending on their grasping skills. For some students it may take a month or two, while for other it may take even 6 months to a year!
• The vocal practice would involve exercise where the students need to stretch their voice from one swara to the other.  It helps you to understand the distance between the two swaras.
• The next step is to learn Alamkaras as well as get familiar with the concepts of taal and lay.
• In a natural progression, the next step is to introduce the following Ragas - Bhopali, Khamaj, Vrindavani Sarang, Bhimpalash, Bhageshree, Bairagi Bhairav, Bhairav.
• Every song is based on a Raga. When you learn the Ragas, you will know the beauty points of the Raga. The pakad swara of the raga. And when you learn how to present the raga, it will be easy for you to present any other song. 
• When it comes to singing, students need guidance in singing at the right pitch and tempo. And then comes the attitude, the modulations, the presentation, and the breath points. All these points will be covered in the course. 
• Around 10 songs will be taught in this course which would include simple compositions, bhajan, and film songs in different languages including - Hindi. Kannada, Tamil, etc. The choice of language will be based on the student's linguistic orientation.
• The devotional songs would include - Dasara padagalu, Bhakti geethegalu, Abhangs, and so on.
• The light music or semi-classical songs will include - Bhavageete, Ghazals, Thumris, Natyageet, etc.
• Manojavvam is popular for singing Rajkumar’s songs. So the students can learn Rajkumar’s songs from him.

About the Teacher

Manojavvam Aatreya is an accomplished performer and entrepreneur with over 17 years of experience in practicing music. For him, the process of learning holds more importance than the end result, as each mistake becomes a valuable lesson in both music and life. He believes that music should offer relief, relaxation, and realization, and he is committed to creating a soothing zone for listeners to relax and find comfort in his art.

Manojavvam came under the guidance of Pt. Kashinath Pattar. Later, he had the privilege of being mentored by Pt. Jayateerth Mevundi of Kirana Gharana. Presently, he is devotedly practicing Hindustani classical music as a disciple of Pt. Dr. Pravin Godkhindi.

Since the tender age of 5, Manojavvam has been performing on various stages and events under the guidance of his father. His passion for different art forms led him to explore mono acting and theater, eventually paving the way for appearances in television shows, movies, dramas, serials, and web series. Working with seasoned directors such as Phaniramchandra, Gururaj Hoskote, Om Sai Prakash, P. Sheshadri, Sihi-kahi Chandru, and Koodlu Ramkrishna, he considers himself privileged to have shared both stage and screen with renowned artists and performers.

Throughout his musical journey, Manojavvam has made sincere efforts to impact the world with his music. He has garnered significant recognition, including winning titles in reality shows like Saregamapa Li’l Champs - Season 4 (Kannada) and Radio City super singer. His screen appearances include movies such as Kashi from Village, Lava-Kusha, Nandaadeepa, Chilipili Hakkigalu, Nannusire, and Prarthane, and serials, including Silli-Lalli, Jagalagantiyaru, Premaraaga, Akashasundari, Pandu I love you, and Paapa Pandu.

Manojavvam Aatreya's achievements have been recognized with prestigious awards such as the Karnataka State Award for Best Child Actor in the movie 'Nandaadeepa', as well as the Aryabhatta International Award, Baalagandharva Award, and Sir. M. Vishweshwarayya Award.
