About the Course

This 24 week online course is for those beginners who have an interest in Hindustani Classical Vocals. Beginners having any previous knowledge or simply an interest in music and enthusiasm for learning this genre of traditional music is sufficient. Your mentor for the course, Suparno Bhowmick, will help the enrolled students in determining the suitable scale for the student, a proper voice tone, voice range, voice throwing techniques, voice modulation and a general or basic idea of the beat structure in Hindustani Music. This will help them create a base for future learning and help them in their upcoming musical journey. In this course, he aims to inspire the new generation with the same passion he has for Hindustani Classical music and this course will also allow him to pass on the legacy of gurumukhi parampara of learning, of which he himself is a fine example. By the end of this course the student will feel very confident about his/her vocal flexibility and skills that he/she has acquired in the past few months of the course.

About The Teacher - Born in a musical family, Suparno Bhowmick was an active listener of Indian Classical Music at a very young age of 8. He started his formal talim under the guidance of his first guru Shri Sandip Ghosh (eminent disciple of Pandit A. T. Kanan Sahib) in the Kirana Gharana for 3 years. However, his music training was not continuous due to academic priorities. He completed his Bachelor's in Business Administration (BBA) from the famous IEM College, Kolkata in 2015 and also Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from EIILM, Kolkata in 2017. Alongside doing higher studies, he started taking intermediate and advanced Hindustani Vocal talim from Vidwan Shri Omkar Dadarkar and continues to do so till date. Few of his most honourable prizes in Hindustani Vocals include the "1st Position in Chetla Murari Smriti Sangeet Sammilani" and "1st Position in the ISO Certified Bharat Sanskriti Utsab" in 2019 and 2020 respectively. Suparno believes that music is entirely orchestrated by one’s brain but it's the passion of the heart that keeps the learner hungry for more and pushes him/her to go the extra mile.

Factoid

Traditionally, Hindu Hindustani classical music practitioners are referred to as Pandit and Muslim practitioners as Ustad. Religious neutrality has been an essential aspect of Hindustani music since Sufi times; this is why Ustads could sing compositions in praise of Hindu deities and vice versa.
