Q: How much time should a student enrolling for this course practice every day?

This course will require practice time outside of lessons. Time spent practicing may vary from 15 minutes per day to an hour, depending on a student’s level of interest. Students who wish to become professional singers will need more hours of practice per day using different exercises and materials than those seeking to learn singing as a hobby. A detailed practice structure for each student will be discussed and explained during class.

Q: What if a student is unable to attend an upcoming class?

The student must inform the teacher about his/her absence from a particular session two days before the class. The teacher will reschedule the class and conduct the rescheduled class on or before the end (i.e., Saturday) of the ensuing week or at a time mutually decided between the teacher and the student. If the student misses giving two days prior notice about his/her absence to the teacher, then the decision to conduct another class for that student is wholly based on the teacher’s discretion.

Q: How long will a teacher take to revert to students’ queries after class hours?

Students should get a response within 24 hours if the teacher is not preoccupied or traveling.

Q: What if the teacher wishes to reschedule a class?

A multi-dimensional and detailed course for vocal music, it covers the following:

Voice training exercises for pitch perfection, voice modulation, and ear training for enhanced listening skills
Breathing exercises for the purposes mentioned above
Practicing singing with a Taanpura for holistic development and tuning of the voice
Fundamental concepts about Ragas, Alap, Khayal Bandish, and Taal
Structured Vistar (elaboration of Raga within the composition) and Sargam Taan (Rhythmic fast-moving notes)
Short and long Alap (Introduction to the Ragas), Vilambit Khayal Bandish ( very slow tempo compositions in Ektaal, Jhumra, Teentaal, etc.). Madhya laya and Drut Khayal Bandishes (Compositions in medium and fast tempo)

These online vocal music classes will help the students understand the philosophy, grammar, and other necessary elements involved in the Raga recital. They will learn on-spot creation of Vistar( Elaboration of Raga with the composition) and necessary Sargam Taan ( Rhythmic fast-moving notes).

After understanding and learning to perfect Khayal renditions, this course will also help the students to learn Thumri, Dadra, Bhajan, and Sufi Songs.

About the Teacher: Supriyo Dutta is a distinguished performer in Hindustani Vocal Classical music and has performed extensively in India and the United States of America, Australia, Europe, Srilanka, etc.

He has trained under some of the finest and legendary icons of Indian classical music, namely, Pandit Ramkrishna Basu(Indore Gharana), Padmashri & Sangeet Natak Academy Ratna awardee Pandit Vijay Kichlu & Vidushi Subhra Guha.

He has been a National Scholar under the Ministry of Culture and was awarded a Gold medal by the President. He has been conferred with Prasun Bandyopadhyay Memorial Award and is an esteemed Indian Council for Cultural Relations member.
