Q: How long will a teacher take to revert to students’ queries after class hours?

Students should get a response within 24 hours if the teacher is not preoccupied or traveling.

Q: What if the teacher wishes to reschedule a class?

If the teacher is unavailable for the scheduled class, he/she will inform the students two days before the class. The teacher will conduct the rescheduled class on or before the end (i.e. Saturday) of the ensuing week or such other time as may be mutually decided between the teacher and the student.

Q: How much time should a student devote to self-practice daily?

This course will require practice time outside of lessons. Time spent practicing may vary from 15 minutes per day to an hour, depending on a student’s level of interest. Students who wish to become professional singers will need more hours of practice per day using a different set of exercises and materials than students who are seeking to learn classical music as a hobby. A detailed structure for home practice for each student will be discussed and explained during class.

Q: What if a student is unable to attend an upcoming class?

The student is required to inform the teacher about his/her absence from a particular session, two days before the class. In such a case, the teacher will reschedule the class and conduct the rescheduled class on or before the end (i.e. Saturday) of the ensuing week or such other time as may be mutually decided between the teacher and the student. In case the student misses to give two days prior notice about his/her absence to the teacher, then the decision to conduct another class for that student is completely based on the teacher’s discretion.

This course's primary focus will be voice training, pitch perfection, and developing an effective practice regime. Add to this the detailed study of Raga, Taal, and Lay. This will boost your understanding of music and enhance your ability to sing the Ragas and other songs.

Before enrolling in this course, you are advised to complete the courses - Basics of Hindustani Vocal Lessons and Level-up Basics of Hindustani Vocals. This course also welcomes learners who have learned Hindustani classical music before and want to start learning again after a gap.

Advanced-level paltas and combination practises.
Development of voice texture
Pitch perfection exercises
Practice with tanpura and harmonium
5-6 ragas and 10-12 bandishes - both in Drut and Madhyalaya
2-3 bhajans or songs according to the choice of the student

Supriyo Dutta is a distinguished performer in Hindustani Vocal Classical music and has performed extensively in India and the United States of America, Australia, Europe, Srilanka, etc.

He has trained under some of the finest and legendary icons of Indian classical music, namely, Pandit Ramkrishna Basu(Indore Gharana), Padmashri & Sangeet Natak Academy Ratna awardee Pandit Vijay Kichlu & Vidushi Subhra Guha.

He has been a National Scholar under the Ministry of Culture and was awarded a Gold medal by the President. He has been conferred with Prasun Bandyopadhyay Memorial Award and is an esteemed Indian Council for Cultural Relations member.
