About the teacher: The instructor for your course is Shirley Johnson. As a believer that good technique is important, Shirley starts with teaching her students the proper way to play the accordion so they can enjoy playing for many years. Hand and finger positions are stressed early on in a positive and cheerful way. Shirley uses her own system of teaching materials instead of relying on a specific book. This allows her to teach music that is more contemporary, ethnic (ex: French, Italian, Polka, Eastern European, etc.), as well as music that students want to learn
Some people try to learn the accordion on their own, through a book, or on the internet with no guidance. They learn techniques that don't help, which in turn, hampers their ability to play well or causes them to injure their hands down the road. Some quit because they have no direction or no accountability, or just give up because they can't figure the instrument out. By going through this Beginner Piano Accordion course, you will learn proper techniques of hand position so that you can play for the rest of your life without injuring your hands. You will learn if you do not already know, how to read music, which is a lifelong skill. And more importantly, you will have a coach guide you - showing you how to play correctly - motivating you to learn - and sharing in your happiness when you have played a song beautifully!
