In-depth Bharatanatyam for Beginners- Level II

Q: Do the students need the attire and accessories needed for Bharatanatyam to start on the basic course?

They do not need it at the beginning. Dressing up for the dance form will be taught at a later stage.

Q: What if the student is unable to attend an upcoming class?

The student must inform the teacher about their absence from a particular session two days before the class. In such a case, the teacher will reschedule the class and conduct the rescheduled class on or before the end (i.e. Saturday) of the ensuing week or such other time as may be mutually decided between the teacher and the student. If the student misses giving two days prior notice about their absence, then the decision to conduct another class for that student is wholly based on the teacher’s discretion.

These classes by world-renowned performer and teacher Veena Chikanahalli Seshadri are in continuation to her beginner, level I course. Students will learn theoretical and practical aspects of the dance form - like Suladi Sapta tala, Asamyutha Hastas, Shlokas in Sanskrit, and much more. Gradually, students will have a strong foundation in the basics of this dance form before proceeding to the next intermediate level.

About the Course

Students will learn theoretical and practical aspects of the dance form. The sessions will cover:

Introduction to Suladi Sapta Taal that includes Shlokas, Angas, 5 Jaatis, Adavu, Taal, and Laya
The first chapter of Natya Shastra (which includes more than 40 shlokas)
Physical exercises from the basic Tattadavu to the more advanced Sarikkal Adavu

About the Teacher: From a young age, Veena Chikkanahalli Seshadri was intensely interested in dance, art, and drama. Throughout an impressive experience of more than 25 years, she has performed and taught Bharatanatyam all over the world.

She trained professionally at the Kalakshetra College of Fine Arts and with Guru Minal Prabhu and Guru Jayalakshmi Eshwar. Now a guru in her own right, she's a renowned dancer and choreographer who has received numerous distinguished awards and achievements. These include a grade A from Doordarshan, an Empanelled artist of ICCR, the Natya Mayuri title from Sadhana International Art and Yoga Festival in Beijing, and honor by Sur Noopur, New Delhi, in recognition of excellence in teaching.

Veena C.S. is recognized as the embodiment of Bharatanatyam, and she brings expertise and passion to each performance and lesson.
