Whether the student's goal is to play within a professional orchestra or simply to start learning how to play the cello from the beginner's level, the basic principles Don teaches will make learning faster and easier. He will work with the student, starting with the basics of bow grip, bow stroke, posture, bow control, left-hand techniques, musical phrasing, ear training, and music theory. This course can be taken by students of any level from beginner to professional.

Over the course of 12 weeks, Don Larson will coach students in the fundamentals of the cello in 60 minutes, one to one sessions. He will use the following techniques to help students learn and progress:
Students must own or have access to a cello and a bow. Don will teach students of any level between beginner and professional and from eight years old onwards.
About the Teacher: Your instructor for the course, Don Larson attended Juilliard, studying with Leonard Rose and Harvey Shapiro while also performing as a cellist in the New Jersey Symphony. After graduating in 1972, he continued playing with them symphony while studying privately with Harvey Shapiro. He has also lived in Europe where he was the principal cellist in a Swiss Orchestra for 3 years. As well as teaching, Don performs recitals with composer and pianist Peter V. Stevens, Lisa Maria d'Aquila, Akiko Kinney, and cellist Eric Wilson. He has performed in London, New York, Belgium, Germany, Vancouver, and Seattle.
