Q: What is the minimum age to enrol for these classes?

One should be six years of age to enrol for these classes.

Q: Are there other courses teaching Kannada songs?

Yes, there are two more courses by Ananya Bhagath, teaching Kannada Bhavgeetas, folk songs, and devotional songs.

Q: How much time should a student enrolling for this course practice everyday?

Students should practice for a minimum of 30 minutes every day. If they can devote more time to practice, they will learn better and faster.

Q: What if a student is unable to attend an upcoming class?

The student is required to inform the teacher about his absence from a particular session, two days prior to the class. In such a case, the teacher will reschedule the class and conduct the rescheduled class on or before the end (i.e. Saturday) of the ensuing week or such other time as may be mutually decided between the teacher and the student. In case the student misses to give two days prior notice about his absence to the teacher, then the decision to conduct another class for that student is completely based on the teacher’s discretion.

Q: What if the teacher wishes to reschedule a class?

About the Course

Before being introduced to popular Kannada devotional songs and Bhajans, students will learn the nuances of Carnatic music for a strong foundation. Students will learn how to sing notes in the three octaves by identifying their scales and finer details like modulation and beautification of a song. The following concepts will be covered in these classes:

Theoretical and practical aspects of the fundamentals of music: melody, rhythm, lyrics and musical forms
Introduction to different sets of vocal exercises and compositions
Concept of Swaras and Tala and how the combination of both these elements helps the student to get the Swara Sthanas or pitching and rhythm sense.
Students will learn simple devotional songs, shlokas tuned to Ragas, Bhajans, Dasara Padas, Vachanas
Ability to recognize the Swara or learn to notate the song
Ability to improvise the song or Bhajans on your own

About the Teacher: Ananya Bhagath is a highly trained and accomplished playback singer, Carnatic vocalist, performer, music researcher, and vocal coach. Her achievements speak of her passion and love for music.

She has been awarded the ‘Best Playback Singer’ for her song ‘Sapurakati’ from the movie ‘Neerdose’. She has completed her Graduation, Post Graduation, and M.Phill in Music from Jain University. Currently, she has earned her Doctorate in Music from Jain University. She is also a graded AIR artist.
