Q: What if a student is unable to attend an upcoming class?

The student must inform the teacher about their absence from a particular session two days before the class. In such a case, the teacher will reschedule the class and conduct the rescheduled class on or before the end (i.e. Saturday) of the ensuing week or such other time as may be mutually decided between the teacher and the student. If the student misses to give two days prior notice about their absence to the teacher, then the decision to conduct another class for that student is wholly based on the teacher’s discretion.

Q: What if the teacher wishes to reschedule a class?

Q: How long will the teacher take to revert to a query raised after class hours?

The teacher will try to revert to queries raised after class hours within 24 hours

Q: How much time should a student enrolling for this course practice every day?

Students should practice for a minimum of 30 minutes every day. If they can devote more time to practice, they will learn better and faster.

Course Summary

Kathak is one of the most graceful traditional dance forms in India. After learning the basic footwork, hand gestures, and body movements in the beginner's course, it is time to step up your potential with more complex concepts.

This course is for learners training in Kathak for at least 3 months. It includes learning Kathak dance compositions, rhythms, and the theories behind each step. The students will have a holistic learning experience and gain confidence in their abilities as Kathak dancers.

SKILS - School of Kathak and Interdisciplinary Learning with Shruti was founded in 2014 by Shruti Patki in Pune. SKILS has been offering in-person classes for a decade and conducting online classes for 8 years. SKILS has to its credit the training of students from 14 countries across 6 continents worldwide.

Shruti Patki - the Founder and Principal instructor at SKILS has a teaching experience of 13 years. She has trained in the Banaras and Lucknow Gharana for 19 years under reputed Kathak Danseuse & Guru Mrs Shambhavi Dandekar and Guru Pta. Maneesha Sathe from Pune.

At present, Shruti is continuing her training from the Jaipur Gharana under Pt. Rajendra Gangani Ji. She is also a visiting Faculty at Lalit Kala Kendra (Gurukul) Savitribai Phule Pune University.

Shruti was awarded the Kathak Navonmesh Nritya Sadhana Puraskar by Dr Sujata Natu and Ganawardhan in July 2019. She has also won a variety of district, state, and national competitions.

Shruti was awarded the Rabindra Puraskar in 2015 and received the Gold Medal in Masters in Performing Arts Kathak, 2014. She has also secured the First Rank all over India in the postgraduate level Nritya Alankar examination conducted by Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Mumbai, in 2012.

Jaswandi Khairnar, a Kathak Visharad, is a dedicated disciple of Guru Shruti Patki currently pursuing an M.A. in Kathak from Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth, Pune. With 15 years of experience in the field and over 5 years of experience as a passionate dance teacher, Jaswandi excels in training students of all levels.

Mrunal Pendse is an accomplished Kathak artist, having completed her Visharad degree under the esteemed guidance of Guru Shruti Patki. With 21 years of passion for Kathak and 5 years of experience training students at various levels, she continues to excel in her dance journey.
