This course will introduce you to the different musical genres like classical, jazz, and contemporary and the importance of the Saxophone in these styles. You will learn the different techniques of recording, song-writing in this course. All of this will be taught with an emphasis on Saxophone! Some examples of the material these lessons would cover include: Classical solos, standard study rep - Ferling, Londeix, Lacour, Tone production and sound, Reed maintenance and care, Jazz theory and history, ex-Real Book, Omnibook, Solo Transcription and Analysis, Improvisation on various saxophone numbers, Solo and Ensemble Prep and Audition Techniques - all covered in a series of 60 minute classes. Your instructor for the course Nelson Devereaux will establish a path once you meet for the first time and the course and its material will be ever-evolving to fit your needs. If you have an inkling or you have a strong liking towards the musical genre jazz or classical music and have been contemplating learning to play the saxophone for yourself, taking ipassio’s online saxophone classes is the best way forward. The ipassio mentor and instructor for the ‘Online Saxophone Lessons’ - Nelson Devereaux - is a recording artist, composer, teacher, arranger, and woodwind player currently living in Minneapolis, Minnesota (USA).
Milwaukee native Nelson Devereaux started playing alto saxophone at the age of 8, studying under Milwaukee saxophonist Berkeley Fudge at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. When he was 18, he moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, and studied the musical instrument under American saxophonist Eugene Rousseau at the University of Minnesota.
Upon finishing his degrees in Music Education and Saxophone Performance, he began touring with Har Mar Superstar and recording, arranging, and touring with the indie-rock band Bon Iver. He has since played some of the biggest venues and music festivals in the world: Coachella (’17-’18), The Hollywood Bowl, Primavera Barcelona (’15,’16), Hammerstein Ballroom, Copley Symphony Hall, Merriweather Post Pavilion, and more.
In 2019, Nelson joined and toured the US and Europe with Craig Finn (The Hold Steady) and the Uptown Controllers, playing Clarinet, Tenor Saxophone, and Flute and supporting vocals. An avid recording artist, he has since completed recording work with bands such as Polica, Lizzo, The Mild High Club, Culture Abuse, Suko Pyramid, Max Devereaux, Klassik, and many more! His latest releases, “BAD WATER” and “2” (with CATSAX) are available on Bandcamp and on other streaming platforms.
