About the Course
The following concepts will be covered in the classes:
- Introduction to the instrument. Its structure and its history. It will help the students in the orientation process of the new learning curve.
- Correct sitting posture. Practice sessions and recitals require the students to sit still in one place and in one posture for hours. Getting used to the right sitting posture will help the students to be comfortable and grounded so that they can focus on playing the instrument.
- Introduction to the basic strokes to identify and play the basic musical notes.
- Students will learn exercises to enhance the agility of both hands and better coordination between the two.
About the Teacher: Pt. Debaprasad Chakraborty is one of the finest Sitar exponents in India. He is recognised as one of the leading performers of the instrument and a messiah of this art form.
Born in a family of musicians, Debaprasad started training at the age of 5 under his father Pt. Adhindra Mohan Chakraborty also received rigorous training from Pt. Ajay Sinha Roy in the style of playing which is widely known as Baba Alauddin Khan’s “Senia Maihar Gharana”.
He received valuable training from Pandit Gokul Nag of Bishnupur Gharana. Pt. Debaprasad has enriched his music based on the “Dhrupad style”. His imaginative sense, creative musical wit, and brilliant performance are well taken by his listeners.
Debaprasad is a “TOP Grade" Artist of All India Radio and Television. Debaprasad has received several private and Government-sponsored awards. A few references include the “SURMANI'' title from Sur Singar Samsad, Mumbai. “Sangeet Ratna” title from Bangiya Sangeet Parishad, Calcutta. He has also received a National Fellowship from the Government of India.
