Course Summary
This course is designed for absolutely new learners. The students should become physically and mentally comfortable with the instrument before they learn to create music. Keeping that in mind the course is divided into three levels, each with a duration of 2-3 months. This provides a very smooth transition for the students into the learning process.

Level 2
- Few other related talas in detail and their application in practical practice.
- Knowledge of the following terms: Ascending, Descending order, Shudha, Vikriti, Tivra, Komal swaras
- Raga, That, Time theory, Vadi, Vivadi, Samvadi, Pakad, Bhatkhande Notation writing method, Sthayi, Antara, Manjha
- Basic ragas –Yaman, Durga, Bhupali, Kafi, Khamaj, Jounpuri, Ashavari, Bhairav, Bhairavi, Todi, Gujri Todi, Brindavani Sarang,
- Small traditional composition with small tans, Toda, Simple Jhala
Level 3
- Simple alankars like Meend, Ghasit, Jamjama, Simple Gamak, Hammering technique, and Krirtan
- Knowledge of Saptak, Familiarities with three octaves of Sitar.
- How to use the Juri string, Kharaj Pamcham, Kharaj Shadaj, and practice of all saptak.

About the Teacher
Dr. Jayant Kumar Das has trained in three musical instruments - Sitar, Surbahar, and Rudra Veena. He is an exponent of Etwah Gharana in Sitar which specializes in the Khayal Ang of Gayaki. He is a graded artist at All India Radio for all three instruments.
He is one of the very rare practitioners who have kept alive the traditional Dhrupad style from the Sama Veda - through his practice of Surbahar and Rudra Veena.
Dr. Das has completed his Doctorate in Music. He has done extensive research on Hindustani and Carnatic instrumental music. He has been lauded for his performances on esteemed stages across the world.
Dr. Das has given lectures at esteemed universities in the USA. He has represented India as a cultural delegate of the Government of India in the USA and Europe.
Several laudable performances, concerts, awards, and accolades have been a part of his musical journey. At present, he is working on establishing the Gurukul for training students in Rudra Veena and Surbahar in Bangalore.
