Q: Can a 45 year old learn this dance form considering that they have never danced before?

Yes, the teacher of this course has experience in teaching students aged between 45 and 50 years. She will evaluate your abilities and customize a lesson plan for you accordingly.

Q: How many hours should I practice daily?

The teacher will give you home task at the end of every class. You should perfect it before coming to the next class. The teacher will guide you regarding the duration for home practice.

Q: What if I can’t attend a scheduled class?

If you can’t attend a scheduled class, please inform your teacher two days before the class. In that case, your teacher will conduct the class over the weekend of the ensuing week. However, if you fail to inform in advance, the decision to take the class will depend on the teacher’s discretion.

Q: What if the teacher wishes to reschedule a class?

In case the teacher is unavailable for the scheduled class, he/she will inform the students two days before the class. The teacher will conduct the rescheduled class on or before the end (i.e. Saturday) of the ensuing week or such other time as may be mutually decided between the teacher and the student.

Q: How long will a teacher take to revert to students’ queries after class hours?

Students should get a response within 24 hours if the teacher is not preoccupied or traveling.

Course Summary

Pose-Whack-Punk - that is the natural progression in this dance style. It is covered in three courses designed by Leena Arora. The beginner's course introduces you to the history and philosophy of this dance style and the fundamental steps of posing dance style.

Posing is a dance form that came from the 1950s and '60s era. It is the kind of dance that we see in the Back and White movies of that era - both in Bollywood and Hollywood. This style came from the LGBTQ community where the people were rebellious about themselves. At the beginner’s level, students will not understand this rebellious attitude and the reasons behind it. They will only learn the meaning.

Punking is more of a lifestyle choice and philosophy you live by. And learning the posing dance style is the first step towards that. In this course, you will learn the history of this dance style and the fundamental dance moves.

About the Course

The highlights of this course include -

The basic dance moves include striking the pose with power, the grooves, arm movements, leg movements, and all the basic formations.
This special course teaches technique from beginning to end, thoroughly breaking down the basic steps.
It will include slow and detailed breakdowns of each movement, warmup exercises to improve stamina and agility, practice drills to increase speed, combinations, and homework.
Repetition and muscle memory are wonderful tools that we rely on throughout. When your basics become second nature and you trust yourself, you can move freely without hesitation. Connecting to yourself is where all the magic happens.
Music - You will also learn about the music that best complements this dance form. That is the music of the disco era (1950 - ‘70).

About the Teacher

With diplomas from both Big Dance Center in Mumbai and New Delhi, and enriched by extensive training under the esteemed Waack Dancer Kumari Suraj from L.A's House of Suraj, Leena brings a wealth of expertise to the world of dance. She has undergone specialized training in Waacking at the Sharing Dance Camp in Russia in 2019.

Leena collaborated with Jasanvi Productions in Mumbai and served as a choreographer at Sailee College in Borivali, Mumbai. She has been associated with various institutions, including PPD Dance Academy, where she also freelanced as a wedding choreographer. Additionally, she has choreographed for NSIT College in Dwarka and served as a dance instructor at DPS Gurugram, Sector 40. Her teaching roles extend to institutions like Bhaav Dance Academy in Delhi and Central Contemporary Ballet India (CCB India) in Gurgaon. Alongside teaching, she has conducted workshops in numerous cities and served as a judge for competitions like Circle Jam India and Hop In The HipHop.

Leena has participated in various Cultural Fests and acted as a coordinator for workshops within college settings. Her passion for dance has led her to compete in prestigious events like Waack Fest in Mumbai, King of the Ring battle, Breezer Shuffle, and Bharat Jam, earning national and international recognition. Notably, she represented India as a Semi-Finalist in Russia's Waacking Sharing Dance Camp in 2019, cementing their dedication to the art form.
