Course Details

Throughout the classes, Judy will teach not only vocal techniques but also tone, articulation, pacing, phrasing, facial and body language that will elevate the student's ability to captivate their audience. Vocal tone - Students will learn how to choose, change and control their vocal tone to draw in their audience and persuade them to listen and engage. Articulation - Judy will also show students how to speak with better clarity in their voice, leaving no one in the audience second-guessing what the student has said. Pacing and phrasing - Not only will tone and clarity help students make a bigger impact but also through their pace and phrasing. A more impactful speaker is one who knows how to hold their audience, even when they are not speaking. Facial and body language - This is as important on a stage as it is in a smaller group setting. Audiences want to see when a speaker is passionate or confident in what they are saying so that they can connect with them.

Judy will show students exactly how to incorporate hand gestures not only for impact but also as a breathing control technique. Judy can also help students to eliminate vocally abusive habits and also create a more interactive experience when they speak, which helps to invite more appropriate responses from audiences.

Students who wish to speak professionally or publically will benefit greatly from this course. This course will help teachers, coaches, actors, voice-over artists, ministers, media personalities on or off-camera in training their voice and speaking well and effectively.

FAQs

Question
Can you help me with accents?
Answer
I can offer some English speaking pronunciation tips, but the main thing I do is help you with the sound and impact of your voice.
Question
Can you help me lower or raise the pitch of my speaking voice?
Answer
Short answer: Yes. Longer answer: The important thing is not to sound monotone unless your message should be delivered that way. So your pitch shouldn't stay in one narrow band when you talk. This is not only not very communicative, it's also tiring for the voice. I'll teach you how to use appropriate pitch ranges in speech that will get the responses you desire from your specific listeners.
Question
Can you help me speak louder?
Answer
Yes, but I will do this by increasing your resonance, not pushing too much air.
Question
Can you help me change the sound of my voice?
Answer
I sure can! If you have a thin, hooty, weak, harsh, edgy or otherwise unwanted sound, I will show you how to access different tones and increase the richness of your vocal resonance. If you have a speaking part that requires a character voice, I can help you manipulate your throat channel to create that sound. And I will help you make choices according to the speaking situation, your particular audience, and your desired response.
Question
How much time should a student enrolling for this course practice everyday?
Answer
This course will require practice time outside of lessons. Time spent practicing may vary from 15 minutes per day to an hour, depending on a student’s level of interest. Students who wish to become professional musicians will need more hours of practice per day using a different set of exercises and materials than students who are seeking to learn music as a hobby. Detailed structure of practice for each student will be discussed and explained during class.
Question
What if a student is unable to attend an upcoming class?
Answer
The student is required to inform the teacher about his absence from a particular session, two days prior to the class. In such a case, the teacher will reschedule the class and conduct the rescheduled class on or before the end (i.e. Saturday) of the ensuing week or such other time as may be mutually decided between the teacher and the student. In case the student misses to give two days prior notice about his absence to the teacher, then the decision to conduct another class for that student is completely based on teacher’s discretion.
Question
What if the teacher wishes to reschedule a class?
Answer
In case the teacher is unavailable for the scheduled class, he/she will inform the students two days prior to the class. The teacher will conduct the rescheduled class on or before the end (i.e. Saturday) of the ensuing week or such other time as may be mutually decided between the teacher and the student.
Question
How long will the teacher take to revert to a query raised after class hours?
Answer
Students should get a response within 24 hours if the teacher is not preoccupied or travelling.
