The World of Hindustani Classical Vocals: Online Music Lessons
This course in Hindustani classical vocal music takes place over 36 weeks with one 45 minutes session each week. As an intermediate course, this class is designed for students who have already established a firm grasp of Hindustani classical basics. After completing the course, instructor Anuradha Kuber will ensure each student is well prepared to progress to the next, a more advanced course. Students enrolling in this course will be required to provide some essential equipment, please see below for details.
This course will cover a range of voice lessons to ensure each student can sing harmoniously with the tanpura. Instructor Kuber will impart the concept of taal (rhythm) as she guides students through the process of developing correct voice usage and practical techniques. Students will also learn a myriad of brandishes (compositions), ragas, along with elaboration techniques for both. Upon satisfactory completion of this course, students will become familiar with many popular brandishes and will enjoy a refined vocal technique that will leave them well-prepared to pursue an advanced Hindustani classical vocal course. Led by established artist Anuradha Kuber, enrollees will also reap the benefit of working one-on-one with someone who has a proven track-record of success in the current music industry.
ABOUT THE TEACHER: Anuradha Kuber is a renowned vocalist of the Bhendi Bazar Gharana. She trained for 15 years under the veteran musician Guru Pt. T.D. Janorikar, a foremost exponent of the Gharana. While a proficient musician of her own right, Kuber continues her education with musicologist Dr. Arawind Thatte. Kuber has performed in many major Indian cities including many music organization events and music festivals. Recipient of the Gaanhira award, Sur Mani award, Manik Varma award, among others, Kuber’s musical talent has come to be known by a vast audience through her performances and many CDs. Today, Kuber ensures the continuation of this time-honored tradition by teaching the musicians of the next generation the beauty of Hindustani classical music.
Students enrolling for this course on ipassio can be sure that they receive individual attention from the teacher, as the class strength is limited to 1 or 2 students. It also gives teachers the opportunity, to gauge their students progress in depth and make changes whenever and wherever required, to ensure the student gets the maximum out of this course. Since this course is detailed, students get the advantage of learning intricate details about this art form. The limited strength of the class also ensures that there is a strong bond between the students and their teacher clearing out any inhibitions that the student might have. The sustained guidance available from the teacher ensures that the student does not deviate from set goals or targets. As this is an intermediate course, students enrolling should already have a good ear for pitch and rhythm provided by a vocal basics course. Students will also need a good quality external microphone as the internal speakers of most computers is not satisfactory for the purposes of this course. Itabla pro software with an external speaker is also required in order to complete the lesson plan for this course. All required materials will need to be purchased before attending the first session of this course.
