Course Details

This course, designed by instructor Shashank Giri, is broken down into four sections for easy learning. In the first section, students will begin with an introduction to the instrument and music. This section will include guidelines detailing how to choose the right instrument for you.

Section two will include lessons covering correct handling and finger placement on the flute as well as basic note practice. This section will continue on to practice playing the notes on the higher end of the register, followed by the lower notes.

In sections three and four, instructor Giri will introduce more advanced concepts of Alankaar. By the end of this course, students can expect to be able to play simple songs on the flute or bansuri with correct fingering and positioning for easy transitioning into the more complex musical forms.

ABOUT THE TEACHER: The talented instructor Shashank Giri is a recorded artist, flutist, singer, composer, flute maker, actor and teacher. Giri studied music for over 18 years, beginning with Carnatic vocal, then Carnatic flute and finally into Hindustani classical music and flute under Pt. Venkatesh Godkhindi. As a composer, Giri has a deep inclination toward Devaranama or popularly known as Daasavani and he has composed over 50 devaranamas of different dasas of dasa parampare. Known as one of the finest flute makers in India, Giri’s craftsmanship has earned him many appreciations for his high-quality performance flutes. To date, Giri has performed in nearly 3000 performances at various locations. Now, Giri is working to ensure the continuation of this traditional art form to students across the globe.

The ipassio Edge

Students enrolling for this course on ipassio can be sure that they receive individual attention from the teacher, as the class strength is limited to 1 or 2 students. It also gives teachers the opportunity, to gauge their students progress in depth and make changes whenever and wherever required, to ensure the student gets the maximum out of this course. Since this course is detailed, students get the advantage of learning intricate details about this art form. The limited strength of the class also ensures that there is a strong bond between the students and their teacher clearing out any inhibitions that the student might have. The sustained guidance available from the teacher ensures that the student does not deviate from set goals or targets. Learning from a revered, experienced exponent of this art form, through the long duration of this course, keeps the student inspired and motivated to achieve more.

Prerequites

Students will need to have their own G bass or A bass flute or bansuri for this course. However, instructor Giri suggests all students to contact him for guidance on which instrument is right for them. Students should have pen and paper to take notes, but no other materials are required for this course. Anyone enrolling in this course should ensure they have time in their schedule not only for attending the weekly courses online but also for practicing independently between classes to get the most from this course.
