ABOUT THE TEACHER: Belonging to “Gaya Gharana” (heritage), which is the pathfinder of solo harmonium playing in India, Suvendu Banerjee has been rated a B-High grade artist of Prasar Bharati All India Radio as well as being impaneled with the Indian Council of Cultural Relations. Banerjee’s 25 years of musical experience all started at the young age of seven, when he began to learn harmonium from his grandfather Pandit Deb Kumar Banerjee. Since this time, Banerjee has studied under guru Pandit Deb Kumar Banerjee, his ancestor and Dadaguru Sangeetacharya Montu Banerjee and is currently studying under Pandit Shyamal Chatterjee, the renowned sitar maestro of Senia-Maihar Gharana and senior most disciple of Bharat Ratna Pandit Ravi Shankar. Suvendu Banerjee completed his MSc in Advanced Computer Science from the University of Manchester in 2011. Afterward, in 2013, he stood first at the state level competition organized by the Government of West Bengal in the Solo Harmonium Category. Now Banerjee is passing on this timeless tradition of solo harmonium music to students across the globe.
