Intermediate Level Carnatic Vocals
Taking place twice a week, in 45-minute sessions over the duration of 20 weeks, totaling in 40 online courses. Designed to bridge a vocalist’s foundational education to the advanced strategies of Carnatic tradition, this course will introduce new challenges and quality control techniques. Ideal for those pursuing a musical career or hobby, instructor Narayanun will ensure each lesson is tailored to suit the student’s needs.

Course Details
In this Intermediate Level Carnatic Vocals course, students will receive tailored and personalized lessons from musical exponent Sreyas Narayanun. Instructor Narayanun will provide lectures, activities, and tests that ensure each student receives the guidance required to fine-tune the mechanism of their voice as an instrument. As an intermediate level course, students will move beyond the basics to learn pristine pronunciation, breath control, and how to fight vocal fatigue, among other skills.
Each student will benefit from the guidance of Sreyas Narayanun’s extensive musical background as they progress through the course. Successful completion of this course will leave all students prepared to enroll in the next phase of their musical education, Advanced Carnatic Vocals. Lesson plans and progress will vary to meet students’ needs to ensure each person enrolled gains the necessary skill to progress forward.
ABOUT THE TEACHER: Equipped with a powerful voice spanning three octaves, Sreyas Narayanun is an "TOP RANK" Vocal Artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan Chennai. Narayanun gives regular performances in many prestigious Sabhas and institutions all over the country and abroad. Known for his musical sincerity and traditional approach, Sreyas Narayanun has received many awards and accolades for his profound work in Carnatic vocals. Narayanun received his initial musical education from Sri A. Anantharama Iyer (Muthuswamy Dikshitar lineage) of Guru Guha Gaana Vidyalaya, Kolkata. Later, in Chennai, he continued his study under Professor M.A. Venugopal, where he continued his education for fifteen years. Since 2008, Narayanun has continued to learn under musical veteran Padmabhushan Sri. P.S. Narayanaswamy. Today, Sreyas Narayanun is passing on the proud tradition of Carnatic vocals to the next generation as an instructor and mentor to students from around the globe.
Students enrolling for this course on ipassio can be sure that they receive individual attention from the teacher, as the class strength is limited to 1 or 2 students. It also gives teachers the opportunity, to gauge their students progress in depth and make changes whenever and wherever required, to ensure the student gets the maximum out of this course. Since this course is detailed, students get the advantage of learning intricate details about this art form. The limited strength of the class also ensures that there is a strong bond between the students and their teacher clearing out any inhibitions that the student might have. The sustained guidance available from the teacher ensures that the student does not deviate from set goals or targets. Learning from a revered, experienced exponent of this art form, through the long duration of this course, keeps the student inspired and motivated to achieve more.
Students enrolling in this course will need ample time to meet with the instructor over live video. Additionally, it is the responsibility of the student to ensure they have ample time to practice on their own, so they can learn to apply the lessons of this course. Students will need pen and paper for taking notes, but no other materials are required for this course. As an intermediate course, students enrolling must complete the previous Beginners Carnatic Vocal course as a prerequisite or be able to demonstrate a basic level of understanding in Carnatic Vocals.
