This beginner’s long term course 32 weeks will train students in accordance with the ancient method of music training. It will teach them playing the flute and singing with the foundation in Carnatic style of music. Students undergoing this course will learn the basics of Carnatic music in relation to the instrument flute. Students will be able to render a simple song or geetam on the flute, after successfully completing this course.

Course Details
This is a beginner course for students interested to learn the instrument, flute, adhering to the Carnatic style of music. Students pursuing this course will first learn the Carnatic basics starting from the swara system. They will then learn about the tala system or rhythmic cycles, practising the swaras in particular talas. Students will then start to train on singing the swaras in particular ragas keeping in mind the talas. Students will be taught the different kinds of varishas, first among them will be the sarale varisha meaning a simple combination of notes. Moving on they will practice the datu varisha, meaning the jumping of notes and the janti varisha, meaning, the practising of two notes in different accents. Further, on students will learn the alankara to learn about the structure of tala or rhythm.
This long term course, basics of flute, for 32 weeks apart from making students practice the different varishas and alankaras will also provide students with a brief history of the instrument flute as well as the finger and lip placements on the flute. Students after undergoing rigorous practice will be taught a short duration song or geetam by the culmination of this course. Students can also express their interest to their teacher if inclined to appear for the junior level, Government conducted examination in carnatic music. The teacher will, depending on the student's interest and progress, train them on the syllabus that will enable them to appear for the junior level, Government conducted examination.
About Mr. Rajkamal N: A flautist of repute, Rajkamal started performing on stage from an early age of 10 years. Though highly qualified with a degree in engineering and a postgraduate degree in business administration, Rajkamal’s heart and soul lie with music. He is trained under virtuous teachers such as flautist Vidwan S.A.Sashidhar, renowned vocalist Sangeeta Kalacharya Smt. Neela Ramagopal as well as flute maestro Padmashree Dr. Ramani to hone his skills. He has to his credit many recognitions, a couple of those being awarded the Youth Icon award from the Lions Club, Karnataka Gana Kala Parishad, Best Musician Award. Recognised as one of the bright stars among exponents of Carnatic music, Rajkamal is a regular at acclaimed musical events both in the country and abroad, besides doing television shows, showcasing his class and art. Though occupied with commitments Rajkamal ensures he allocates enough time to train young aspirants who desire to learn the flute. He teaches students from around the world, the Carnatic style of playing the flute.

Students undergoing this course create a strong foundation in Carnatic music under the aegis of a well known, practising artist Rajkamal. N. Rajkamal, teaches the students in an ancient method of teaching classical music. This course can be used as a stepping stone for the purpose of pursuing further learning in Carnatic style vocals or Carnatic style wind instrument playing, whichever interests the students, more. By the end of this course, students who have been regularly practising as per the teacher's advice will be able to play a short song or geetam on the flute. They can also, depending on their interest seek guidance from the teacher to appear for the junior level government conducted examination in Carnatic music.
Learning a wind instrument can be beneficial for students having asthma or suffering from a breathing ailment. As the teacher of this course states, a few students training with him has been able to control their asthma and breathing condition practising the wind instrument. In simple terms wind instruments help to enlarge the lungs and store larger amounts of oxygen, thus enabling individuals suffering from asthma or any other breathing ailment breathe normally.
