Learn the Basics of Playback Singing

Q: How much time should a student enrolling for this course practice everyday?

This course will require practice time outside of lessons. Time spent practising may vary from 15 minutes per day to an hour, depending on a student’s level of interest. Students who wish to become professional musicians will need more hours of practice per day using different exercises and materials than students seeking to learn music as a hobby. A detailed practice structure for each student will be discussed and explained during class.

Q: What if a student is unable to attend an upcoming class?

The student must inform the teacher about his absence from a particular session, two days before the class. In such a case, the teacher will reschedule the class and conduct the rescheduled class on or before the end (i.e. Saturday) of the ensuing week or such other time as may be mutually decided between the teacher and the student. If the student misses to give two days prior notice about his absence to the teacher, then the decision to conduct another class for that student is completely based on the teacher’s discretion.

Q: What if the teacher wishes to reschedule a class?

In case the teacher is unavailable for the scheduled class, he/she will inform the students two days prior to the class. The teacher will conduct the rescheduled class on or before the end (i.e. Saturday) of the ensuing week or such other time as may be mutually decided between the teacher and the student.

Q: How long will the teacher take to revert to a query raised after class hours?

Students should get a response within 24 hours if the teacher is not preoccupied or travelling.

About the Course

The course will introduce students to important concepts and techniques of Playback singing. Sooraj believes that there are different methods of learning to sing. He breaks down the learning process into smaller parts. He customises the course depending upon the student’s current voice and the types of songs that suit their voice. About the Teacher: Sooraj Rajan is a highly trained singer/songwriter from Bangalore. He has been performing and playing music for eight years and is currently working on his new album. Since childhood, he has been a keen learner of music, especially singing and playing the guitar. His first teacher was his father from whom he learnt how to appreciate music first. Songs from movies like Roja and Rangeela inspired him to learn singing and he practised with the playback for hours at a stretch, till he thought he got it right.

He has collaborated with artists like Krfew and Krishanu Borah for their independent projects which are available on all the music streaming platforms. The song 'Kashi' with the renowned producer of Delhi, Krfew, has over a hundred thousand views on Youtube.

Sooraj released a three-track EP called 'Dispose' in 2019 and was a part of the 98.3 Fm radio Artist of the Month podcast.

His original music revolves around Indie pop, inspired by artists such as The Beatles, The Doors, Radiohead, AR Rahman, Illayaraja, Amit Trivedi and many more. The melody of a song is something Sooraj resonates with the most.
