Carnatic Vocals for Beginners takes place twice a week in 45-minute sessions over the duration of 20 weeks, totaling in 40 online class sessions. Designed with beginners in mind, this course is ideal for those pursuing a professional singing career, or just picking up a fun hobby continuing the Carnatic tradition. Successful completion of this course will prepare any vocal artist for the next level Carnatic vocals course.

Course Details
This beginners course will cover all essential elements of a strong carnatic vocal foundation, including Sarali Varasa, Janta Varsai, Alankaram, Upper Sthayi, Geetam, and Swarajathis. Enrolling students will need time in their schedule to attend the online classes, along with ample free time to devote to practicing their lessons, as well as listening to other vocalists. Students will need pen and paper to take notes, no other materials are necessary to complete this course.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be well prepared to enter their next intermediate Carnatic vocal course with a solid foundation upon which to develop their musical career.
ABOUT THE TEACHER: Equipped with a powerful voice spanning three octaves, Sreyas Narayanun is an "TOP RANK" Vocal Artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan Chennai. Narayanun gives regular performances in many prestigious Sabhas and institutions all over the country and abroad. Known for his musical sincerity and traditional approach, Sreyas Narayanun has received many awards and accolades for his profound work in Carnatic vocals. Narayanun received his initial musical education from Sri A. Anantharama Iyer (Muthuswamy Dikshitar lineage) of Guru Guha Gaana Vidyalaya, Kolkata. Later, in Chennai, he continued his study under Professor M.A. Venugopal, where he continued his education for fifteen years. Since 2008, Narayanun has continued to learn under musical veteran Padmabhushan Sri. P.S. Narayanaswamy. Today, Sreyas Narayanun is passing on the proud tradition of Carnatic vocals to the next generation as an instructor and mentor to students from around the globe.
Students enrolling for this course on ipassio can be sure that they receive individual attention from the teacher, as the class strength is limited to 1 or 2 students. It also gives teachers the opportunity, to gauge their students progress in depth and make changes whenever and wherever required, to ensure the student gets the maximum out of this course. Since this course is detailed, students get the advantage of learning intricate details about this art form. The limited strength of the class also ensures that there is a strong bond between the students and their teacher clearing out any inhibitions that the student might have. The sustained guidance available from the teacher ensures that the student does not deviate from set goals or targets. As a beginner’s course, there are no prerequisites required before enrollment. New Carnatic vocal students are encouraged to enroll in this course as the lesson have been designed to accommodate any aspiring artist. With 33 years of experience, instructor Sreyas Narayanun is well versed in the material and is able to accommodate many different learning styles.
