After mastering the fundamentals, the natural next step in your Carnatic journey is to move from basic lessons to real musical pieces. This Intermediate course helps you make that transition by training you in Aadhi Thala and Ata Thala varnams in multiple speeds, along with Krithis and devotional compositions across languages.
Through this, you develop the technical control, laya discipline, and expressive confidence required to sing complete compositions - a milestone every Carnatic learner looks forward to after the foundation stage.

The highlights of this course include -
Varnam - In this course, you start learning varnams in Aadhi Thala and Ata Thala. They learn to sing them at varied speeds. As you continue to learn, the focus will slowly shift from just getting the notes right to singing with good control, steady rhythm, and better breath support.
Krittis - As you get comfortable with Varnam, you will be introduced to Krithis. You will start paying attention to how the melody moves and how the lyrics are expressed while singing.
Devotional Songs - While you learn to master the technical aspects of Carnatic music, you will also learn devotional songs in Tamil, Telugu, Sanskrit, and Hindi.
You can share your wishlist of Bhajans with your teacher. Your teacher will help you learn the right songs for you. This will help to build confidence and expression and give you a chance to enjoy singing beyond exercises and technical practice.
Nottuswaram - The course also includes Nottuswaram, a unique set of compositions that blend Western musical notation with Carnatic elements. They are pleasant, melodic, and easy to learn. Some of the well-known Nottuswarams by Muthuswami Dikshitar include “Santatam Pahimam,” “Shakti Sahita Ganapatim,” and “Varashiva Balam.” Their simple structure makes them enjoyable to sing and a great way to expand musicality and repertoire at this stage.
