Guitar Basics for Wizards
This short term course in guitar learning is for beginners. Anyone interested to learn playing the guitar can enrol for this course. Apart from introducing students to aspects such as lead, chords and rhythm in relation to the guitar, the course will train students to play three different songs from a combination of Western, Indian and instrumental music.
This beginners course will initially introduce students to the guitar, its components and the right posture when holding a guitar. Further on, students will be taught to play a set of notes on the guitar, otherwise termed as ‘chords’. Once the students familiarise with chords they will be trained on rhythm, meaning regular repeated pattern or flow of sound. After the students have acclimated to playing rhythm, they are then introduced to leads and taught to play single note lines without using chords instead depending on solos and licks. A lick, or riff, is a short piece of guitar work that is often repeated through the verse and chorus. After the student is familiarised with leads, chords and rhythm, the student gets to choose 3 songs from a list of twenty, comprising western, Indian and instrumental songs to practise in the guidance of the teacher. The student can also suggest a song that interests him and learns to play it on the guitar, seeking guidance from the tutor.
