This course will begin with an overview of the harmonium, including the basic elements of the instrument, proper handling and care of the harmonium, as well as the appropriate posture for playing. After each student has a grasp of these basic concepts, the lessons will move forward to include an introduction to the melodic system of ragas. During the duration of the lessons, experienced instructor Suyog Kundalkar will guide students through a variety of topics, including alankaar (ornamentation), swar (pitch), lay (tempo), and taal (musical meter).
About Suyog Kundalkar: Suyog Kundalkar is an established harmonium player with years of experience and accolades. Kundalkar has been graded as a B High artist of the All India Radio and Doordarshan, and has been honored as an impanelled artiste on the Indian Council for Cultural Relations. In addition to a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from Lalit Kala Kendra of the University of Pune, Kundalkar has also won many awards for his musical contributions, including ‘U.Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar’ given by Sangeet Natak Academy, ‘GaanSaraswati Kishori Amonkar Sangatkar Purskar’ from Gaansaraswati Kishori Amonkar, ‘Pt. Givindrao Tembe Sangatkar Puraskar’ by Gandharva Mahavidyalay, ‘Pt.Bandubhaiyya Choghule Smruti Puraskar’ (Indore) and many more. Today, Kundalkar serves on the panel of Lalit Kala Kendra (the Centre for Performing Arts at Pune University) as a Guru, while also teaching students from across the globe.
