The highlights of the course include -
Voice Development - This topic is all about control and tone. You’ll practice advanced alankars to build agility, meend and gamak for smooth expression, and stretch your range across all three octaves. By the end, your voice will feel stronger, more open, and more expressive.
Raga Kafi - Kafi is where you start bringing emotion into structure. You’ll learn its aroha, avaroha, and pakad, and sing Vilambit and Drut Bandishes — balancing depth and speed like a true artist.
Taal Training - Get comfortable with Jhaptal (10 beats) and polish your theka work in Teentaal. This month helps you get that natural “laya sense” that every performer needs.
Raga Bageshree - Dive into one of the most romantic ragas. You’ll explore Alaap, Sargam, and simple taans, learning how to express feeling through melody.
Improvisation - This is where things get fun. You’ll try Bol-Alaap and Bol-Taan, and learn to create your own variations in ragas like Yaman and Bhoopali. Slowly, you’ll start sounding less “student-like” and more like a musician with your own style.
Raga Todi & Khamaj - Todi brings seriousness; Khamaj adds sweetness. You’ll explore both ends of the spectrum — from deep, meditative singing in Todi to light classical Thumri-style expression in Khamaj.
Taal & Laya - Meet Rupak, a 7 beats taal that’ll sharpen your rhythmic instinct.
You’ll sing Bandishes in Bhoopali and Kafi, adapting your voice to different time cycles.
Raga Bihag - A romantic evening raga that’s graceful and expressive. Learn Bandish, practice Alaap, and experiment with Taan to really bring out its beauty.
Semi-Classical Styles - Time to loosen up a little with some semi classical music! These are some of the most beloved compositions ever known. You’ll explore Thumri or Dadra in ragas like Khamaj or Pilu, learning how to make your singing softer, emotional, and fluid.
Raga Malkauns - One of the most powerful ragas you’ll ever learn. You’ll practice both Vilambit and Drut Bandishes, focusing on voice depth, maturity, and emotional balance.
Creativity & Composition - Now, you’ll start thinking like a performer. You’ll create your own short alaap and taan sequences, understanding how to apply theory into practice - your music, your way.
Performance Preparation - Time to put it all together. You’ll revise all major ragas - Kafi, Bageshree, Yaman, Khamaj, Bihag, Malkauns — and prepare a 2-classical + 1 semi-classical set for your stage performance or recording.
How It’s Personalized for You
This isn’t a one-size-fits-all course. Every learner is different, and your teacher will shape the sessions around you. If your voice is soft, you’ll work on projection. If it’s powerful, we’ll build agility and finesse. The sequence in which the Raga will be taught will also be planned as per your learning abilities and preferences. Quick learners move to bol-taans early; others stay longer with alaaps and sargams. You can move at your own pace. Whether you’re training for a stage show or learning for personal joy, your path is designed to match your goal.
