Course Details

This course, personally designed by instructor Aishwarya Vidhya Raghunath, provides students with a thorough understanding of kriti and keerthanams musical compositions. Aishwarya teaches that only by truly understanding the raga bhava, can a kriti performance become elevated to a musical experience beyond a mere rendition. Through the instruction of Aishwarya, students learn a repertoire that will enrich their understanding of music, enabling them to embark on the next lessons of manodharma - alapana, neraval, and swaram.

ABOUT THE TEACHER: Aishwarya Vidhya Raghunath is an emerging proponent of the Veena Dhanammal Bani of Carnatic classical music. Her family introduced her to the world of music at the young age of three and she performed on stage for the first time just 10 years later. Since then, she has been awarded the Government of India Scholarship (Ministry of Culture, 2008-2010) and has been rated an A-graded artist of the All India Radio and Doordarshan. Aishwarya has performed at countless venues nationally and internationally for a multitude of functions and assemblies. Not only a musician, Aishwarya is also a biotech engineer having served as an executive at Biocon before committing to a full-time musical career. Today, she is as an instructor on ipassio, passing on the tradition of Carnatic music through passionately constructed lessons provided to students across the globe.

Students enrolling for this course on ipassio can be sure that they receive individual attention from the teacher, as the class strength is limited to 1 or 2 students. It also gives teachers the opportunity, to gauge their students progress in depth and make changes whenever and wherever required, to ensure the student gets the maximum out of this course. Since this course is detailed, students get the advantage of learning intricate details about this art form. The limited strength of the class also ensures that there is a strong bond between the students and their teacher clearing out any inhibitions that the student might have. The sustained guidance available from the teacher ensures that the student does not deviate from set goals or targets. Learning from a revered, experienced exponent of this art form, through the long duration of this course, keeps the student inspired and motivated to achieve more.
This course does not have any required prerequisites before enrollment, however, as an intermediate course students should have a basic understanding of sarali varisai, janta varisai, dhatu varisai, alankara, geetham, swarajati, as well as a minimum of five varnams. A pen and paper are the only required materials for this course and enable students to take notes. It is important for students ensure they have the time to commit to online sessions and independent practice between lessons. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be equipped with key compositions in Carnatic music and a strong foundational understanding of kriti and keerthanams traditions, upon which to build manodharma.
