About the Course

This course will begin with an overview of instrument anatomy and care and will continue laying the foundation for proper violin placement, left-hand techniques, muscular dexterity, and posture. The course progresses to essential music theory lessons including reading sheet music, learning the scales, and understanding key signatures. Once the basic subjects are mastered, students will learn essential pitch and rhythm, as well as ear training to ensure students are able to naturally interpret and respond to instrumental feedback. Finally, instructor Singer will guide individuals through the process of exploring their unique sound and inherent musicality. Is there a song you've always wanted to play? Instructor Merav Singer can arrange it for you so that it's just at your level.  Although you will start off with classical music to build a solid technique, by the end of the year you'll be playing your dream song.

An experienced educator, Instructor Singer has developed a lesson plan to accommodate children, as well as adult and senior learners. Merav Singer’s online violin course is open to hobbyists, as well as aspiring professional musicians. Upon successful completion of this course, students can expect to be ready to confidently play a beginner’s repertoire.

About the Instructor: Instructor Merav Singer began studying violin at the young age of six with Lydia Mordokovitch as well as a student at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance in Israel. Singer attained a Bachelor’s degree in Music from Smith College and a Master of Music in Violin Performance from the Cincinnati Conservatory. Later, Singer continued to add to her education further by achieving a Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology from the University of California in Berkeley. During Singer’s professional career she has played with the Kansas City Symphony, toured Europe with the Camerata Lawrence, and performed with her own ensembles; the Meadowlark String Quartet, and Trio Fontana. Independently, Singer plays solo for public and private audiences while passing on her education as a lecturer in Music Theory and Ear Training at UC Berkeley.
