Q: How much time should a student enrolling for this course practice every day?

This course will require practice time outside of lessons. Time spent practicing may vary from 15 minutes per day to an hour, depending on a student’s level of interest. Students who wish to become professional guitarists will need more hours of practice per day using a different set of exercises and materials than students who are seeking to learn guitar as a hobby. A detailed structure of practice for each student will be discussed and explained during class.

Q: What if a student is unable to attend an upcoming class?

The student is required to inform the teacher about his/her absence from a particular session, two days prior to the class. In such a case, the teacher will reschedule the class and conduct the rescheduled class on or before the end (i.e. Saturday) of the ensuing week or such other time as may be mutually decided between the teacher and the student. In case the student misses to give two days prior notice about his/her absence to the teacher, then the decision to conduct another class for that student is completely based on the teacher’s discretion.

Q: How long will a teacher take to revert to students’ queries after class hours?

Students should get a response within 24 hours if the teacher is not preoccupied or traveling.

Q: What if the teacher wishes to reschedule a class?

About the Course

This course will begin with an overview of instrument anatomy wherein the instructor Samarth Desai will help his students know the instrument, get comfortable with it, identify each part, and learn about its importance. The course then progresses to musical notes and identifying them on the fretboard. Once these basics are mastered, the students will learn the basics of music theory including classification of time, pitch, and note values, a basic level of left/right-hand rudimentary exercises, and left/right-hand techniques.

Further, this course will cover more foundational information about scales (theory and practical use) and ear training. Finally, instructor Samarth Desai will guide individuals in learning how to play simple songs on the Guitar.

The highlights of the course include -

Introduction to the parts of the guitar, the names of the strings, tuning, and technique—whether finger-style or pick.
Exploring the basics of music theory with topics such as scales, triads, power chords, and fingering and shapes.

About the Teacher

Samarth Desai is a Hindustani classical guitarist and composer. He started learning music under his father’s tutelage. Later, he chose Pt. Mallikarjun Taralgatti as his mentor for classical music. He has earned National Award in National Youth Festival, Punjab, and also the 5 State Awards.

Samarth developed his unique Hindustani classical style which earned him accolades on different musical platforms. He even performed in reality shows like India’s Got Talent with the Punch band. He has shared the stage with legendary performers such as Pt. Jayatheerth Mevundi, Hariharan, Roopkumar Rathod, and many such luminaries from the music world. He is a regular performer at musical concerts and events in and outside of India.
