Description

This in-depth, 52-week course covers a range of topics and techniques related to playing, and mastering, the tabla. Students will become skilled at compositions such as kaida, rela, tukra, chakradar, gat, and chalan, and taals like teen taal, keharwa, dadra, jhaptaal, and laya. In addition to teaching technique for playing, Unmesh Banjeree will cover a brief history of various tabla gharanas and maestros, as well as vocabulary related to Indian classical music. He will also teach students the art of reciting Indian rhythm, which is essential to playing, and composing for, the tabla at an advanced level. These lessons provide students the opportunity to learn and grow as classical musicians.

Students will need to have their own tabla, understand the basics of playing, and have a desire to participate in live online learning with a highly experienced and talented teacher. Each student will benefit from Unmesh’s expertise and his willingness to tailor the course to his students’ background, age, and learning style—which increases retention and enjoyment for any student. The limited strength of the class also ensures that there is a strong bond between the students and their teacher clearing out any inhibitions that the student might have. The sustained guidance available from the teacher ensures that the student does not deviate from set goals or targets.
