Master Western Vocal Techniques

The classes will revolve around understanding the fundamentals of Western vocals. The following concepts will be covered:

• Breathing Techniques: Learn the importance of diaphragmatic breathing and how to control your breath to produce sustained and controlled notes.
• Posture and Alignment: Discover the significance of maintaining proper posture and alignment to optimize your vocal performance and prevent strain or injury.
• Vocal Warm-Ups: Explore various warm-up exercises to prepare your voice, improve flexibility, and expand your vocal range.
• Pitch Accuracy: Learn how to recognize and replicate different pitches accurately through ear training exercises and vocal exercises.
• Tone Production: Understand the concept of tone and how to produce a pleasant and resonant sound through proper breath support, vowel formation, and vocal placement.

About the Teacher: Divya Iyer is a soprano and music educator hailing from Mumbai. Divya holds a Diploma in Western Classical Vocals from the prestigious KM Music Conservatory in Chennai. In addition to her Western classical training, she has also received training in Hindustani and Carnatic classical music, showcasing her versatility and dedication to musical exploration.

Her exceptional talent was acknowledged at the National Level Youth Festival organized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), where she secured a silver medal for her outstanding performances in Western vocals. Driven by a thirst for knowledge and artistic growth, Divya has attended masterclasses conducted by esteemed artists such as Patricia Rozario, a renowned British soprano, and Benjamin Appl, a distinguished German baritone. 

Divya's exceptional abilities also led her to become the first runner-up in the "Western Classical Singing Competition" organized by the Madras Musical Association. Her musical prowess caught the attention of the legendary composer Dr A R Rahman, who interviewed her as part of the 'AR's Super 8' series in 2019.

In March 2023, Divya had the honour of being the soloist for the Concert for Friendship, a highly anticipated event held in Chennai in collaboration with KM Music Conservatory, Sistema Scotland, and the British Council. This concert was attended by the Oscar-winning music composer Dr A R Rahman.
