Course Details

This Vocal Grooming For Bollywood Singing course for beginners does not require its students to have any previous knowledge - simply an interest in music and an enthusiasm for learning. It will cover all the basics of voice techniques needed to sing traditional Bollywood songs, providing students with an excellent base upon which they can build as they go forward on their musical journey.

She would help students develop the voice tone, provide exercises for developing a good range of voice, teach techniques for voice modulation, help develop other voice skills that are used in popular music, apply these skills in Bollywood songs, Geet, Ghazal n other forms of popular music, teach the notation underlying each song, develop an idea of the beats involved in the songs and how to emote and express through popular songs.

In this course, she aims to inspire beginners with the same passion she has herself and pass on some of the expertise she's gained over her successful career. Students can expect to be competent in performing a range of Bollywood songs by the end of the course and will be able to feel confident in their new vocal skills. They'll be well equipped to tackle simple songs and be in a good position to move onto intermediate training and classes if they wish to grow their musical skills further.

About Angira Kotal: Angira was introduced to Hindustani Classical Music at a very early age by her mother Smt Ratna Kotal and soon she came under the tutelage of Shri Shyamal and Smt. Mandira Lahiri. She received taalim from Late Pandit Biresh Roy in subsequent years. However, music training was not continuous for her because of academic priorities. Angira graduated in Computer Science Engineering in 2010 followed by a short stint working in Cognizant Technology Solutions. She resumed learning music in 2011, after a long gap of nine years, under the aegis of Ustad Jainul Abedin. She quit her job in 2011 and took up music as a career. Angira also holds a Graduate Diploma with Distinction in Economics from University of Essex followed by a Masters Degree with Merit in Economics from University College London. During her stay in the UK she won the title “Yuva Sangeet Ratna,Young Musician of the Year Award 2013” organized by Milapfest, UK and supported by Arts Council England. Currently, she is receiving advanced taalim from the renowned vocalist Pandit Omkar Dadarkar. She has won the Pratima Chandra Memorial Award 2018 in khyal and thumri and has performed in prestigious platforms in the UK and Kolkata. Under the thoughtful and pragmatic guidance of her guru, she hopes to take forward the legacy of Hindustani Classical Music both in time and space.

Question
How much time should a student enrolling for this course practice everyday?
Answer
This course will require practice time outside of lessons. Time spent practicing may vary from 15 to 30 minutes per day, depending on a student’s level of interest. Students who wish to become professional musicians will need more hours of practice per day using a different set of exercises and materials than students who are seeking to learn music as a hobby. A detailed structure of practice for each student will be discussed and explained during the classes.
Question
What if a student is unable to attend an upcoming class?
Answer
The student is required to inform the teacher about his absence from a particular session, two days prior to the class. In such a case, the teacher will reschedule the class and conduct the rescheduled class on or before the end (i.e. Saturday) of the ensuing week or such other time as may be mutually decided between the teacher and the student. In case the student misses to give two days prior notice about his absence to the teacher, then the decision to conduct another class for that student is completely based on teacher’s discretion.
Question
What if the teacher wishes to reschedule a class?
Answer
In case the teacher is unavailable for the scheduled class, he/she will inform the students two days prior to the class. The teacher will conduct the rescheduled class on or before the end (i.e. Saturday) of the ensuing week or such other time as may be mutually decided between the teacher and the student.
Question
How long will the teacher take to revert to a query raised after class hours?
Answer
Students should get a response within 24 hours if the teacher is not preoccupied or travelling.
