Course Summary
Geetam is one of the fundamental building blocks of Carnatic music. This is where lyrics are introduced in the Raga.
The curriculum of this course is designed to help you learn how to render Geetams in the most beautiful manner. Throughout the course, you'll explore Geetams in various languages, composed by different maestros and set to different melodies (ragas) and rhythms (talas).
As you progress in this course, you will explore more detailed nuances in Geetams. Also as the course reaches its completion, you will be introduced to Varnams - yet another significant musical form of Carnatic vocals.

- Geetams are one of the first types of songs you learn in Carnatic music.
- They introduce you to singing with lyrics and some simple musical ornamentations called gamakas.
- Learning Geetams helps you understand Raga (melodic scale),Tala (rhythm), and forms the foundation of your musical knowledge.

- Geetams are essential for building your music skills.
- They lay the groundwork for your understanding of the basics of Carnatic music.
- With Geetams, you develop the ability to sing with expression and musical ornamentation.

About the Teacher
Brindha Manickavasakan is a performing vocalist and research scholar in the field of Carnatic
Music is based in Chennai, India. She has been performing for the past 23 years, from the age of 10. She is an ‘A’ grade artist of All India Radio, Chennai. She has been training in Carnatic Vocal Music for the past 27 years.
Brindha learned under the tutelage of esteemed Carnatic vocalists such as - Sri Neyveli Santhanagopalan, Dr. Manjula Sriram, Sri Madurai Rajaram, Sri Nagercoil M S Muthappa Bhagavathar, Smt. Durga Venkatesh, Sri D. J. Balakrishna, Smt. Bhagavathi Shankaran, Smt. Jayashri Rao, and Smt. Rajalakshmi Ashok.
At present, Brindha is training with ‘Sangita Kala Acharya’ Vid. Suguna Varadachari. She learned to play Veena under the guidance of Smt. Radhika Chandrashekar, and Smt. Radhika Bhaskar.
Brindha has performed at several esteemed stages and has collaborated with renowned musicians and vocalists from across the world.
