The duration of this course includes a study of the art of Ghazal music from its origin, including the Urdu and Hindi poetry that lies at the foundation of this musical form. Students will begin with Ghazals of popular Hindi films including Ghazals of Jagjit Singh, known as the ‘Ghazal King.’ Ghazal exponent and renowned singer Sonal Shah will lead students through the process of learning different forms of poetic expression through voice modulation.Upon the successful completion of this course, aspiring musicians will be prepared to perform musical pieces and will have attained a solid foundation to carry on to their next advanced Ghazal music course. Students attending this course in search of a hobby or learning a more profound form of devotion will be pleased to find themselves able to perform basic musical pieces for their family and friends, as well as having attained a deeper understanding of this art form.

About Sonal Shah: Sonal Shah is a well-known Sufi Singer. She is classically trained, with a postgraduate degree in Music from Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey Women’s University (SNDT). Shah is a National Award title holder “Sur-Mani” for Indian Classical Music and has been performing as an artist in All India Radio since last 30 years. Previously, Sonal Shah was invited to an exclusive interview by Pakistani radio channel Dhamaal for her service as a Sufi and Ghazal singer. In addition to her musical studies, Shah has also become fluent in the Urdu language to ensure a complete and deep understanding of the Urdu poetry as it contributes to Ghazal music.
