The course begins with the study of ragas including yaman, bhairav, bhupali (bhoop), bhimpalasi, and Durga. These studies are broken down into additional areas of study: the swara correction of each raga, swara sadhana and alankar, patterns with the notes of ragas, bandish of chota khayal with tabla, creating alap and taan, and finally, singing alap and taan with tabla. The course continues on to teach students the ragas malkauns, bihag, tilang, and bhairavi. Depending on the grasping ability of the student, the course will conclude with Ashvini Modak’s teaching bandish and tarana compositions. At the successful completion of the weekly lessons, students will be able to sing and understand advanced, complex concepts and ragas of Hindustani classical music.
Advanced Hindustani Classical Vocals Level I is best for students who have already completed Basics of Hindustani Classical Vocals Levels I and II, taught by Ashvini Modak, or students who already have a thorough understanding of the basics of Hindustani classical vocal music. Students that complete this class can look forward to continuing their education with Ashvini Modak in the next course, Advanced Hindustani Classical Vocals Level II. Students who are not yet at this level may want to complete Ashvini Modak’s basics courses level I or II.
About Ms. Ashvini Modak: Ms. Ashvini Modak is a promising talent in the field of Hindustani Classical Music. She has an inborn talent for music. Studying since the age of five, Ashvini was introduced to music by her mother, talented vocalist Smt. Latika V. Vyaghrambare. Her grandfather Late Shri P. G. Sukhatme was also a stage artist of Marathi theatre. Ashvini ji also has a master’s degree in music from Khairagarh University and diplomas in classical vocals, Hindustani vocals ,and electrical engineering. Ashvini ji was first tutored by the renowned Sitar maestro Pt. Shri Bimlendu Mukherjee of Imdadkhani Gharana for several years. After this, she became a disciple of renowned vocalist "Padmabhushan" Dr. Prabha Atre and she now belongs to Kirana Gharana.
Apart from being proficient in Khyal gayaki, Ashvini ji has also enthralled the audiences in rendering semi classical forms like Thumri, Dadra and Bhajans. The recipient of many awards and achievements, Ashvini is an expert in Hindustani classical tradition. She is a B High-grade artist of All India Radio (AIR) Pune. She has also selected for empanelment in the “ICCR’s Reference Panel of Artistes”. She has given several performances all over the country and abroad. She is working as a faculty at the Gurukul of Dr. Prabha Atre Foundation. She has participated and conducted various workshops & seminars on semi classical music (Thumri – Dadra) as an instructor along with “Padmabhushan Dr. Prabha Atre” at Goa (organized by Govt. Of Goa).
Her notable performances include performances at Ustad Abdul Karim Khan Punyatithi Mahotsava - Miraj, Gharana Festival - Delhi, Haridas Sammelan, Dadar Matunga Cultural Centre, Karnataka Sangh, NCPA-Mumbai, Pulotsava, Gaanvardhan,-Pune, Chakradhar Samaroha – Raigarh, TTD – Tirupati, Trafo House Of Music- Hungary Europe, Vedic Heritage - New York. She has performed on stages in India and abroad and has spent many years teaching vocals in the classroom and online.
